Like plenty of Irish pubs around Manhattan, there’s nothing particularly Irish about Carlow East besides its name and the Guinness on tap. Thankfully, this doesn’t make a difference to the crowd of older men who stop in to watch baseball and American football—especially when the Seahawks are on. Thanks to the bar’s nine flat-screens tuned into the day’s various sporting events, fans (old men or otherwise) are in luck, and anyone looking for cheap beer will also be pleased with the $3.50 “recession special” on certain bottles. If you're tempted to down hot wings with your brewski, ask the guy watching the girls at the pool table where he got his or just request the enormous binder of delivery menus from the friendly bartender. Carlow East doesn’t have a kitchen, but they’ll let you order in. No frills, no food, no problem!
