Cask Bar + Kitchen: Considering the neighborhood, Cask is a surprisingly classy bar with 100-year-old reclaimed wood floors and an antique back bar that, according to their promotional materials, "harks back to a bygone era." That bygone era perhaps being a time when Murray Hill wasn't filled with loud, drunken frat bars guarded by bouncers the size of a Mack truck. Cask is a dark and intimate gem in the area, with a terrific beer selection of about a dozen taps (like Flying Dog Raging Bitch IPA, $5) and a dozen more bottles. Not surprisingly given its name, Cask also has a rotating selection of two cask-conditioned beers flowing at any given time. Add an adventurous cocktail selection (have the St. Murray—Bacardi Light Rum, St. Germaine, fresh lemon and lime juice, $11), house-made sangria ($9 a glass), and a rustic food theme heavy on the fromage and charcuterie, and Cask is the rare Murray Hill spot that's nothing like a Murray Hill spot.
