Cedric:
You don’t have to study French at nearby Columbia University to recognize that Cedric’s menu of escargots ($11) and foie gras ($18) promises the real deal in French cuisine. Couples well-versed in the language of love might request a table by the retractable floor-to-ceiling windows, share one of five varieties of mussels ($18) and down glasses of rose ($10) off Cedric’s French-heavy wine list. Nearby neighbors, on the other hand, might just chomp a cheeseburger ($15) at the bar while watching the game on the bistro’s one flat-screen. Cedric’s exposed brick walls and framed French ads are reminiscent of a Parisian cafe, but the photos of New York landmarks (Frank Sinatra included) and the Yankee fan requesting “buttah” at the next table are reminders that you’re still home. It may not be Paree exactement, but it’s tres bien for your next “study” date with the cutie from French 101.
