Ciano: Helmed by Chef David Bouley’s protégé, Chef Shea Gallante, Ciano is a warm and rustic Italian stomping ground, where patrons tiptoe into its cozy confines, and stumble out hours later in a vino-drenched haze. Perfect for a catch-up sesh with an old friend or for an intimate double date, Ciano is just far enough away from the buzzed-about spots of Union Square that you won’t have to worry if your schlubby college roommate is hip enough for the scene. Dinner may well cost a week’s paycheck (and be disappointingly small), so we recommend stopping by for dessert and wine, or just a cocktail (read: several). Try the delicious Limoncello Rosa (sicilian limoncello, vodka, fresh lemon and cranberry, served in an XL glass, $16) or indulge in a White Peach Bellini (Stirrers peach liqueur, white peach puree and prosecco, $16). The overwhelmingly large wine list (clocking in at over 10 pages) is superb, but it’s best to ask the waitstaff to help you navigate it…unless, of course, you’ve been picked up by a finance exec in an Armani suit, in which case you should go ahead and celebrate with the Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 1985…which might knock even him off of his Zegna loafers at a cool $2,550.
