CO-OP Food & Drink: It’s easy to scoff at the concept behind the Hotel on Rivington’s latest nightlife offering (American brasserie AND sushi bar?), but jeering is tricky with a mouthful of delicious Uni Risotto ($18). The chefs at CO-OP Food & Drink bring big flavor to everything from Steak Frites ($32) to the signature CO-OP Roll (spicy tuna topped with rock shrimp tempura, $18), and thankfully, nobody is slacking behind the gold-tiled bar either. Cocktails include the Brown Sugar (bourbon, brown butter peach and piri ball, $13) and the Pink Bazooka (vodka, watermelon, basil, orange blossom, and coco hibiscus with a coconut water ice cube that changes the flavor of the drink as it melts, $13), though you can order an Afternoon Delight (champagne, rhubarb and lemon, $13) if you didn’t get the real thing earlier. Scenesters trying to make a name for themselves sit beneath a skylight, large black chandeliers and the looming images of those who already have. If you don’t personally know New York mainstays like Moby, Betsey Johnson and the owner of Katz’s Deli, at least here you can dine with their over-sized Polaroids.
