Cocktail Bodega: Who knew that one of the city’s newest hot spots would have a bar lined with blenders, kale, cucumbers, beets, apples, whey protein and the likes? Meet Cocktail Bodega, the latest brainchild from Sons of Essex duo Matt Levine and Michael Shah, serving up liquor-blended smoothies and spiked freshly squeezed juices ($10-11). A perfect spot to mingle and chat, bask in an upbeat, unpretentious atmosphere surrounded by LES hipsters, singles, couples and bigger groups celebrating birthdays (a tropical birthday smoothie was appropriately just added to the menu). Below the so-called juice bar is a diminutive lounge, CBU, completely covered in graffiti done by Lower East Side graffiti artist Doug Aldrich…you know, for those looking to dance off all that kale and tequila. By day the spot, morphs into a laid-back café with bites and free Wi-Fi. We’re pretty sure this is just about the coolest place to load up on antioxidants.
