Comedy Cellar:
Tucked beneath the Olive Tree Café, this legendary Village basement space contains a lengthy comic resume that is anything but funny. Some of New York’s biggest comic up-and-comers drop one-liners nightly, continually packing this dungeon-inspired den. Don’t hold your breath for appearances by Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, and Dave Chapelle, but they have been known to drop by unannounced to test their latest material. Fulfill your two-drink minimum with options from a full bar that offers beer, cocktails, sangria, and specialty drinks like Hollywood and Pineapple Bomb. Reservations and a $10-$15 cover charge are required, which isn’t bad for a night of gut-wrenching laughs.
Overall, good, fun place to hang out for a few laughs. The service could have been more prompt. The comedians definitely use the F bomb and sexual nature material - sometimes to extremes - so be prepared.
