Compose: “What are you in the mood for?” That’s the first thing you’ll hear when you sit down at one of 10 coveted seats at Compose’s bar. There’s no cocktail menu, no top shelf, no bottom shelf, no prices (everything’s $15), and surprisingly no snooty attitude, just you and your whim. Craving an Old Fashioned? A Gin Fizz? Maybe you want something combining prosecco and bourbon and you don’t care if it sounds crazy because you know it’s delicious. Whatever you decide, your personal mixologist-slash-cocktail encyclopedia will create for you, complete with hand-cut ice sourced from a specialty factory in Brooklyn, glassware specifically created for each drink and a friendly explanation of the recipe. Pair your concoction with snacks from Compose’s bar menu, like the addictive popcorn drizzled with herb infused duck fat ($8) or the decadent cheese steak ($14). They’re available at any of the tiny booths scattered throughout the space, but you’ll have to sit at the bar if you want to indulge in the chef’s tasting menu ($120, $200 with cocktail pairings). Just be warned, after enough personalized cocktails (because you can’t try just one) you might have trouble keeping your composure…thank goodness you were planning on taking a cab home anyway…. |
