Corkbuzz: Buzz is right—new wine bar-cum-classroom Corkbuzz has been the talk of the town for months now, with rumors of its mammoth list of oenocentric options making wino mouths water. Good news for owner and Master Sommelier Laura Maniec: the Union Square spot lives up to the hype. With a whopping 35 wines by glass and over 200 by bottle, there are options for every palate and price range, from a sweet Spanish sherry like El Maestro Sierra Fino ($10/glass), to the ’90 Château Margaux, a full-bodied Bordeaux for those rolling in the Benjamins ($2,495/bottle). The menu boasts bites to go along with the bubbly, and pairings are more inspired than your standard vino and cheese, including top-notch nibbles like shrimp with spicy squash butter ($17) and earthy bone marrow with blue cheese brûlée ($17). Resident wine buffs can help you with pairings, or you can boost your own pairing prowess with one of their wine classes, which run the gamut from “blind tastings” to “takeout pairings.” From the vino to the viands, Corkbuzz will leave you thirsty for more, and luckily, the bar’s quick with a refill.
