Cornelia Street Café:
The beat generation has long since passed, but a genial holdover of the anti-establishment spirit is alive and kicking at this West Village café. An emblem of bohemian culture since 1977, the Cornelia Street Café is a bi-level melting pot of artistic resistance. Known for their pastel blue cabaret space, you’ll find everything from art exhibits and poetry readings to open mic nights and musical performances. Take a seat among one of the many wooden chairs in Cornelia’s unpretentiously stylish surroundings as you savor a glass of wine, champagne, or beer. Performances generally have a $6-$10 cover charge (hey, artists have to eat) but sometimes the cover comes with a free drink.
