Cu 29 Copper: Cu 29 Copper isn’t your uber-hip Bedford Ave. bespoke blah blah blah...but in an age when you can’t spit without hitting a speakeasy, maybe that’s not such a bad thing. Instead, Copper channels the easy approachable ambiance of a national chain, with high ceilings, four dining areas (including two outside!), and a flat-screen hanging high above the bar. The food supersedes any grub you’ve had at Macaroni Grill, though—while the notion of Meximeritalian fusion might normally be concerning, offerings like sizzling fajitas ($14-$17), burgers ($10) and pizzas from the kitchen’s central wood oven ($8-$15) are all executed to perfection. They’ve also got some beers on tap ($5), a fine wine selection ($5) and rotating specialty cocktail options ($8) that reflect the same international influences. Copper shines brightest at brunch, when $12 in addition to any entrée gets you unlimited mimosas, bloodies and bellinis through the afternoon. In a neighborhood that’s oddly void of such offerings, we’re sure that once the word gets out, we’ll see the low-key, less-than-trendy interior at Copper packed with McCarren Park runoff and hip local lushes.
