Cuban Social: While a trip to Cuba necessitates crafty flight plans through South American countries to avoid detection, a trip to Cuban Social only takes an L ride into Williamsburg—a comparison the L train actually wins for once. Located in a renovated industrial space off North 6th and Wythe, the restaurant/bar is open for cocktails and dinner, and then cocktails some more. All of the traditional Cuban specialties—cuban sandwich, ropa vieja, empanadas—are whipped up in-house, right down to the mayo. The cocktails are a step beyond your run-of-the-mill Mojito—try the Cuba Libre, with a splash of gin thrown into the usually ho-hum rum-and-coke mix. That is, of course, if you can make it past the Jameson shots bar patrons use to toast just about everything. With live jazz bands on the weekends, a coffee window opening soon, and salsa dancing and movie nights in the works, there is certainly plenty to toast to. Salud! |
