Culture Club will transport you to a simpler time when Madonna was a virgin and John Hughes made Molly Ringwald Pretty in Pink. Yep, the ‘80s are baaaack, and this time they’ve moved from their previous home on Varick St. to tourist-central Midtown. Below the hanging MTV cube and Pacman figures, you’ll find everyone from middle-aged bachelorettes to a few 20-somethings belting out songs older than they are. Make your way through this currently bi-level bar as the faces of past pop culture icons smile cheesily down on you from neon walls. Noting that subtlety was never the ‘80s forte, order one of their specialty cocktails like the Top Gun ($14) where you'll “feel the need for speed” with the combination of vodka and an energy drink. This club is worth a visit if you’re feeling nostalgic and don’t mind paying the $30 cover fee, but just be forewarned that you won’t need a DeLorean to step out of this ‘80s mishmash and back to the future—and when you walk out the front door, modern-day NYC may not look so fondly on your crimped side pony and leg warmers.
