David Burke Garden:
While the word "garden" brings to mind aromatic greenery and blooming flowers, the closest thing you'll find to a garden at David Burke's Garden—the James Hotel's new outdoor space—are some potted herbs. Nevertheless, the expansive second-floor patio is serene and simple enough to take retreat, and those herbs make themselves more useful muddled in stemware, anyways. Shaken and stirred inside the attached Treehouse bar, the cocktail list does not allow its hotel setting to foster timidity. Try the Breeze (made with mint, cucumber, and one of the infused teas on colorful display) and sip away solo in the shade of a covered bungalow. Have a hang-up about drinking alone? Then host all the friends you can find 'round a communal table and call for bottle upon bottle of bubbly. Keep the crew upright with snacks like pretzels with pastrami and mustard ($8) or Tuna Tartar Tacos ($15). After all, there's no shame in a little overindulgence…as long as it's well-dressed.
