De Santos:
For West Village newcomers, De Santos is quickly becoming known as the restaurant above Janis, but those in the know have been enjoying the spot’s inviting atmosphere and quality Italian eats for quite some time. Housed in a cozy brownstone, the restaurant is covered in exposed brick and dim lighting, which gives the scene an after-hours feel. The front bar is generally packed, most recently with those pre-gaming for a night downstairs (and with specialty cocktails starting off at $12, this isn’t the chug-fest pre-party you'd picture). Still the swankily dressed crowd happily throws down for a refreshing Dark ‘n’ Stormy or the delicious Chloe, made with gin and (strawberry) juice. If you stick around for a meal, try to snag a seat in their garden, it's quieter than the main bar and particularly nice for a date (be sure to get the buffalo carpaccio—it’s the standout on the menu). While the dinner service is just short of a knockout, if you’re looking to hang with the beautiful people, De Santos and Janis pack a pretty mean one-two punch.
