In Italian, dell'anima means 'of the soul," and chef Gabriel Thompson of Del Posto and sommelier Joe Campanale of Babbo seem to have put their heart and soul into this little West Village place. Contemporary but warm, the design incorporates lots of slate, and an open kitchen turns out hearty Italian fare like bruschetta with chickpea spread and braised wild boar and polenta. The obscure, eclectic college radio soundtrack is perfectly suited to dell’anima’s taste-maker crowd. Add an impeccably chosen wine list and a generous bar staff, and suddenly you find yourself in a perfect little slice of hidden gem heaven. Get to dell’anima and get there fast.
I have to agree-I was surprised how a restaurant could be so modern, and yet cozy at the same time. Food id delish - comforting, filling and authentic: reminds me so much of the year I spent (EATING!) in Italy. Dell'anima is a warm and welcome happy addition to my neighorhood. It's perfection!
