Divine Bar West:
Somewhere past Fifth Avenue, the dark elegance of the original East Side Divine Bar was lost and replaced with zebra-print barstools that are reflected on a mirrored ceiling. Amid the bright, oversized Art Nouveau prints, local Midtowners mix with tourists while munching on tapas and twirling their vino in shiny glasses. If divine inspiration is to be found anywhere here, it may be due to the 65 vintages available by the glass and served from a wine tap system behind the bar. If wine is fine but won’t quench your thirst, there’s also 45 bottles of beer to choose from and a decent amount of decidedly good cocktails. The best bet here is to avoid the bar altogether and slip upstairs to the more comfortable lounge where you can settle in under the skylights and listen to the Top 40 tunes, or look into some rooftop dining. For tasting extravaganzas, sign up for a semester of “vino-versity” or take one of their pre-selected “wine flights.”
