Double Wide Bar & Restaurant:
Middle Americans loves to pretend they’re New Yorkers (see: the countless places named “New York Bagels/Pizza/Deli/etc.”) while New Yorkers love to get countrified (see: canned beers, flannel shirts and now the Texas-inspired Double Wide Bar & Restaurant). Named after the veritable mansion of trailer parks, Double Wide is literally double-wide: one portion a bar and the other a lounge. Drinks aren’t quite what you’d expect out in the sticks—they’ve got some solid but accessible draft offerings such as Abita Amber ($5), though bottles like Miller High Life ($4) are also readily available. There’s also plenty of harder booze, mainly bourbons and single-malt Scotches, as well as cocktails that should (but don’t) come in mason jars (ex. the white rum-based Route 66 Cherry Limeade, $11). Food is down-home but not trailer trashy, including options like aged cheddar potato skins ($8) and crab corn fritters ($9). Food, fun and drink times two might sound divine...just don’t enjoy too much, lest your derriere become double-wide as well.
