Dragonfly: Nestled on an unattractive block somewhere between where quiet residential UES streets becomes the imbroglio of the M86, Dragonfly offers Asian street food along with more traditional Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese flavors to round off its carefully curated menu. With Cornelius Gallagher (Oceana) at the helm, you can’t go wrong--how many places are you going to find with a whole fish on the menu (eye sockets included) for $25.95? Just make sure not to overload on your boyfriend’s delicately flavored wasabi tater tots (If puff pastries were savory, and had a creamy, vaguely cheesy filling with a spicy kick, these would be them: $9.95). Between bites, inundate your senses further with cocktails like the spicy coconut margarita (tequila, coconut, jalapeno; all cocktails are $12). Crowd wise, you’ll be dealing with a slightly confused-looking older bunch who thought they stumbled into an Italian restaurant (the canary yellow walls and airy windows up front certainly helped their case). And while you can be sure it’s no Mezzaluna, for those looking for an after-work buzz or quick date night, it provides a welcome reprieve from the refugees of 2nd Ave’s string of The Stumble Inn-esque bars who ventured over to 3rd for drunchies. Let’s just hope they don’t find out about Dragonfly.
