Edi & the Wolf: Ah Austria, the land of Schwarzenegger, Mozart, schnitzel, strudel...and wine? That’s right, Edi and Wolf(gang) from foodie-haven Seasonal have brought this cozy East Village tavern to life, with all the Zweigelt, Blaufrankisch and Gemisschter you can drink ($7-$14/glass, $31-$79/bottle). But don’t get too hung up on the language barrier—the warm wooden décor and friendly staff need no translation—before you know it, you’ll be shouting “prost!” over an enormous glass of Weihenstephan (beers, $6-$11). Communal seating helps to create gemtlichkeit (“coziness”) and thick hanging ropes twisted with lights above the bar will leave you wanting to hang around a little longer for dinner. Split the Spätzle, Wild Mushrooms and Brussels Sprouts ($17) with a friend, or taste test the Landjäger, cured dried Austrian sausage with mustard and pickles ($9). Even if you've never heard of half the stuff on the menu, trust us, everything is Austrian for delicious.
