The doors just opened to El Camion (the truck), a new East Village Mexican “cantina,” and it seems everyone is already on board. And why not? With authentic eats in a charming atmosphere (downtown trendy without being overwrought), it’s no wonder the cool kids are already packing the tables behind those floor-to-ceiling windows. Anyone looking for something stronger than a $5 Corona can ask the ultra-friendly bartender for “Mexican Amores” (coconut rum, pineapple, orange, coconut puree and cream, $10) or suck down “La Vampirita” (frozen margarita topped with red sangria, small $9/large $12). However, the decision to add a shot of tequila to your Jarritos (fruit flavored soda, $2) will make the difference between remembering your night in “the truck” and realizing you fell off the wagon.
