El Cid Chelsea:
There’s no shortage of Spanish restaurants in Chelsea, but thanks to a reasonably-priced menu and an inviting happy hour, chances are nobody will complain about the latest incarnation of a shuttered nabe fave. Say “hola” to El Cid (meaning “the lord”) at a new location, where the selection of Iberian cuisine (think Tortilla Espagnola, $6 and Boquerones, $7) is extensive, and $5 buys you a beer, sangria or margarita from noon until 7pm. What was formerly a diner is now a dimly lit dining room equipped with a marble-topped bar and a front wall that opens in warm weather to the sidewalk. A second level is due to open eventually, and rumor has it, patrons willing to haul up the steps will be rewarded with access to an outdoor patio. Brunch is served on weekends, and most entrees (from Eggs Benedict to Mushroom Ravioli) range from $8 to $10. Gracias a Dios, it seems this lord is benevolent.
