El Porron:
Sure, NYC might not need another tapas joint, but Upper East Siders certainly shouldn’t turn their noses up to the only authentic Spanish cuisine in the hood; especially El Porron, a contemporary Tasca that celebrates Spain with old world dishes and an all-Spanish wine list. The tapas (especially of the seafood variety) are as bueno as it gets, but it’s happy hour where the wine flows like...well, wine. Pretty patrons partake in the tradition of drinking from the porron, an ode to the Catalan blown-glass vessel that pours wine through a spout leading directly into your mouth (kind of like a sophisticated funnel). While images of your senior-year Spring Break trip dance in your head—fear not. The Spanish are a classy bunch of drunks and you’ll have more fun from 5-7pm at El Porron than in a “La Isla Bonita” video.
