Elizabeth’s Neighborhood Table:
The term “farmhouse chic” has become, well, chic in this city as of late, and Elizabeth’s Neighborhood Table might be the most farmhouse-y addition to the scene. Lurking way uptown in the urban ‘burbs, this massive joint has enough acreage for an honest-to-God porch complete with a white picket fence and a swing. Its ostentatiousness isn’t much of a surprise, considering Elizabeth’s comes from the minds behind family-style Italian favorite Carmine’s. The organic and seasonal menu is heavy on the fresh veggies with such big-plate “thoughtful” American comfort foods as the roasted pork chop ($18), the grass-fed flat-iron steak ($23) and a half-dozen options from the burger bar ($10-12). Draft (all $7) and bottled beers are solid local favorites such as Brooklyn Brewery’s champagne-bottled Local 1 and 2 (750 mL for $18). House sangrias span from $6 a glass to $28 a pitcher and desserts are the kind of unavoidably delicious-sounding options that absolutely necessitate sharing (all $7). Truth be told, Elizabeth’s is so much better than you’d expect from a place you’d also expect to be in a mall parking lot.
