Ember Room: The name Todd English can be spotted all over these days—on Top Chef, on menus all over the city, even squarely stamped on the imposing sandstone oven in the kitchen of The Ember Room. But it doesn't take a monogrammed oven to see that the man is on fire, and so is everything about this Asian BBQ located—where else?—in Hell's Kitchen. Trendy dishes like pulled pork buns, chocolate-glazed ribs and pork belly all have just a bit of kick, with drinks like the Kosame Cocktail (Bombay Sapphire Gin, limoncello, lemon juice, green tea simple syrup, rosemary - $12) keeping things cool. The Asian-inspired decor is ultra modern, as are the scenesters, ahem, diners gracing the tables of the bi-level restaurant. Make sure to grab a cocktail in the Marble Poet’s Lounge, which features a 25-foot wall made from distressed wood, overlaid with gold-leafed Chinese calligraphy. The centerpiece of this swanky spectacle? An impressive open kitchen, where skilled grillmasters roast sucklings and paint scallops before your gluttonous eyes. Now that's hot.
