Fat Hippo:
Newcomer resto/lounge Fat Hippo is making a splash in the LES. This brainchild of three longtime friends (director Christopher Scott, chef Ten Vong, and bartender Jordan Sorman) is far chicer than its lumbering name. The casual yet sophisticated design by Resistance Architecture (Sorella), features white quilted-leather banquettes, brick walls and an exposed-beam ceiling. Chef Vong, of Mercer Kitchen & Aureole, displays his formidable talent in Hippo's small but creative menu. It includes innovations like the mini-burger fondue (these skewered Lilliputian patties are as adorable as they are delicious). Hot and sour sauteed calamari ($6) comes with crostini, great for sopping up the tasty lemon dressing. And Zagat-honored bartender Jordan Sorman (Yuca & Lot 61) more than lives up to his hype with handcrafted cocktails (all under $8) that spotlight market-fresh ingredients. Whether you visit for dinner or brunch, you'll find that Fat Hippo's hip scene, friendly service, and relaxed vibe are a welcome addition to the nabe. Daily hours vary.
Been there five times now and the food is always good and fun. Pactical menu for the LES. Like the kitchens late hours and the crowd is LES all the way. Can't go wrong for a good time.

Happy to see a place like this open on the LES. Food is great and affordable. Drinks are unique and the atmosphere is awesome. Open 'til 4am is a huge plus as it's tough to find a good bite to eat on the weekends late night.
Servers are sexy and the exposed vaulted brick ceilings are a nice touch. Can't wait to get back there soon!

Went to brunch there last week and was very impressed. I personaly went with the French Toast and my mouth is watering right now just thinking of that dish again. Also took a bite of the pancakes with the peanut butter mouse on top, and that was just as amazing.

After years of hanging out at dive bars and college dumps (which happen to be my favorite types of bars) I had a few drinks here and was thoroughly impressed. I am pleased to announce that I picked up a few men. Now I'm not a player, well, maybe I am! But, this place rocks!
