Fatty Crab (Upper West Side): If you're the sort of Upper West Sider that doesn't go for things like, oh, forks, you should probably get to the Fatty Crab right away. Sure, this "Malaysian inspired" eatery doesn't look like anything special at first glance, but trust us: Fatty Crab will be a place to remember. The cool, laid-back atmosphere makes it easy to let loose, and the helpful staff will encourage you to dine as the natives do—hands first. Expect unique flavors, smallish (but worth it) portions and prices that rarely tip the $20 mark. A word of caution: The restaurant's cuisine is "inspired” by the South Pacific nation, so if you’re the, “I lived in Malaysia for two years after college, and this is not authentic,” type, you may want to try another spot (like Malaysia). For the rest of us, there are ten signature cocktails and an impressive wine and beer list to add to our fake Malaysian enjoyment. But be careful! One too many Fatty Sours (bourbon, sherry, sours and bitters, $12) and you just may be crab-walking home.
