Fatty ‘Cue:
Housed on a dark street beside the Williamsburg Bridge more apt for a drug deal than a BBQ joint, Fatty 'Cue is the latest in a series of excellent dining establishments putting the South Side on the map. Drop into the sunken first floor bar area where you can down eight to ten dollar signature cocktails like The ‘Cue (Wrey & Nephew overproofed rum, smoked pineapple, citrus, Tabasco and Pernod), before stumbling upstairs to try their unique take on Asian-inspired BBQ. Despite the restaurant’s namesake, the food is actually quite light. Offerings include small plate dishes like clams seasoned with bacon and marinated diced cucumbers, which lead up to their mains (many of which are smoked on premises) like delicious ribs marinated in fish/palm syrup. With pig lanterns and a refurbished pig island barbeque sign, the décor is like Brother Jimmy’s if Brother Jimmy’s was cool and subtle. A seasonal outdoor seating area will soon top the place off as the neighborhood’s go-to for bringing dates, out-of-town friends and parents.
