Fiorini: So, your wannabe tech-savvy great uncle texts you asking to get dinner. “Shoot,” you think. “Where can we go where I’ll be able to get a good meal out of it but he’ll enjoy as well?” Then you read this review and eureka! At Fiorini, devoted regulars, business types and a few tourists congregate over perfectly presented food, plenty of wine and attentive service. Happily, the handsomely decorated venue lacks any TVs so you won’t be fighting with an LED screen for your dining companion’s attention and the “come and stay a while” ambiance allows you to linger over your delicious Punte Di Asparagi ($11), Risotto Al Frutti Di Mare ($25), or just a refreshing Pinot Grigio ($10) from their extensive wine list. If your day left you yearning for an after-work bev (or eight), grab a seat at their sturdy oak and marble bar and indulge in a cheese plate assortment ($17) and a Ginger (Beefeater gin, homemade lemon-ginger simple syrup, garnished with fresh candied ginger, $8) to drown your sorrows and perk you up as you realize you’re no longer one of those kids with gelled hair or uncomfortable heels that you see out the window stumbling down to Turtle Bay. Oh, and whatever you do, don’t forget to top your night off with as-authentic-as-you-can-get-in-America Baba served with its own little shot of rum to pour over its fabulously flaky decadence ($10).
