The scenario: You're having an after-work drink with a hot colleague. The goal: turning it into a full-fledged date. The recommendation: Forty Eight. For starters, it has to be the only bar around with a “His n’ Hers” drink special: dual martinis paired with a layered pousse-café to share ($37). Sip away on your chaise lounge, which will be surrounded by high ceilings, sleek metallic icicle formations and a 120-inch flat-screen that emerges, James Bond-like, from the ceiling. As the lights dim and the curtains are drawn, Forty Eight is ready for your impromptu dinner. Billing themselves as a “hybrid lounge,” they offer 22 hearty small plates that are more than meal-worthy, from toasted almonds ($4) to the excellent honey and pineapple glazed meatballs ($18). Combined with the imaginative cocktails and the sleek setting, Forty Eight will probably make for a late night for you and your co-worker, though not necessarily at the office.
BEAUTIFUL ROOM, GREAT SERVICE and extremely classy. The small plates were awesome. That is one of the classiest and well done websites i have ever seen for a venue. I couldn't find when searching google for it however. www.48nyc.com
