Forty Four: Sure, mixologists and their kooky potions have been all the rage these the last two years, but the truth is a lot of these $19 fancy-shmancy drinks don’t live up to the hype. If you just want to relax after work with a well-mixed, perfectly balanced “grown up” drink and NOT a bubblegum cordial-based concoction, you’ll appreciate the Royalton Hotel’s new bar concept, Forty Four. Curated by a celebrated team of all-star mixologists known as The Cocktail Collective, the talented bunch has successfully created a menu that pays homage to the finest hotel bars without losing sight of their ultimate goal…making drinks people actually want to, well, drink. The Champagne Cobbler ($20) consists of champagne perfectly poured tall over crushed ice with muddled citrus zest, sugar, Peychaud's bitters and a crown of fresh fruits in season (definitely an upgrade from the all-you-can-drink mimosa you had for brunch, though unfortunately, just as expensive). Hotel guests, midtown workers and Condé Nast execs mingle at the oversized bar and on the luxurious leather furniture, helping to prove that hotel bars really are the new speakeasys. |
