Frankies 570 Sputino:
Words can be more than deceiving—words can form an outright lie. Frankies 570 Spuntino, purportedly “informal meal or a snack; also, a casual Italian eatery,” has lost the rustic (read: cheap) charm of Frank Castronovo and Frank Falcinelli’s original 2003 spuntino (which was adorably housed in a Carroll Gardens multi-car garage.) Although you must prepare to pay more for a “snack” than you would at even over-priced Little Italy joints, you will be delightfully surprised by the “House-Made Gnocchi Marinara & Fresh Ricotta” ($13)—just like your grandma’s but without your grandma’s extra-large portion size! Don’t be surprised if you actually run into Granny when you’re there, either, as 570 tends to attract an older crowd. So Frankies 570 Spuntio may not be the most exciting club in NYC, but it’s a good spot for taking visiting out-of-town fam for pitchers of seasonal aperitivo-styled drinks ($36). And you know what apertivo translates to in English? “Happy hour!”
