Fulton: One could debate whether even a seafood restaurant should be named after a legendary fish market that, well, stunk like fish…but such is the case with this decidedly un-stinky UES destination. Owner Joe Gurrera’s “side-job” running Citarella Gourmet Markets has given him relationships with fishmongers and access to the finest products they have mongered, and it shows. The menu isn’t particularly adventurous, but it doesn’t necessarily need to be when the product is this good (organic salmon, $27; slow-roasted halibut, $30). Fulton may seem stuffy, but during happy hour (5-7pm daily) they offer $1 local oysters and $6 Frexienet, $4 Sam Adams, and $6 vodka- and gin-based beverages at the bar, meaning the chances that you’ll have to quickly sprint to Fulton’s outdoor cafe to yak and be merry are high. Or, you can choose to stay classy with top wine ($10-16 a glass) and cocktail options such as the Jalepeno-ginger mango margarita ($15). Whatever the case, please try the fish.
