Good Beer: Sometimes an innocent apartment cocktail hour will magically turn into a debaucherous free-for-all, and sooner or later, you have to step up and do a beer run. Thanks to the guys behind Good Beer, an East Village beer store-slash-brew pub, you'll never complain about being the beer bitch again. With 450 varieties of brews in stock, and plans to double that number very soon, there's a bottle for every locavore (Coney Island Sword Swallower), beer snob (Brovwerij Huyghe), beer-hater (Fort Strawberry) and hipster (Dales' Pale Ale—well okay, that's a can) in your crew. But because it takes caloric energy to lug multiple six packs up fifth-floor walk-ups, Good Beer's refueling station includes a dozen draughts ($6) for imbibing right there in the shop. In a rush to head out? These guys can pack you a to-go cup, a.k.a. a growler ($9-15), which fits four pints worth. A tiny kitchen also cooks up sausages and snacks—grab some bacon buttercrunch ($6) on your way out and your friends will be so smitten they may forget to ask you where the hell you've been all this time. |
