Grappa Wine Bar: Grap’ it while you can—one of the most anticipated (and delayed) openings of the season, Sag Harbor’s Grappa Wine Bar is finally here. With more than 60 local Long Island and international varietites by the glass, it’s billed as the first classic boutique wine bar on the South Fork. The mahogany and oak space has a 40-foot wrap-around wine bar, an eight-foot fireplace, high banquettes, cozy tables screened with sheer fabric for privacy, antique chandeliers, and of course, true to its name, grappa urns soaking whole fruits and herbs. The dimly-lit, sexy space is owned by Ed “Jean Luc” Kleefield (of Madame Tong’s), and is located in the former Mumbo Gumbo space. The menu has the typical Italian fare ($6-$11 for appetizers, $9-$24 for entrees—shockingly affordable for the Hamptons), and the friendly and knowledgeable staff will help you navigate the 400-plus wine bottle list. After the kitchen closes at midnight, a slightly younger crowd comes out for drinking, lounging, and grooving to the upbeat music that plays well into the wee hours of the night. |
