They say that Brooklyn is the new Manhattan, and the team behind Grubstake, located in downtown Brooklyn's Sheraton Hotel, certainly seems to agree. The ground level restaurant/bar's muted colors, traditional American menu offerings and top-40 music will likely please tourists from Omaha, but it certainly lacks the eclectic character that makes a trip to Brooklyn appealing. The sparse dining room is reminiscent of a generic wedding hall, and while the front "sitting area" has potential, its current décor is a stylistic mish-mash. A few tweaks—lowering the lighting, teaching the bartenders how to mix drinks—would help make this a place young socialites come to party, especially if Lance Bass keeps showing up. If Grubstake is looking for buzz among B-list celebs, the 8,000 sq. ft. lounge/dance club addition set to premiere early next year might be just the thing to get those Jimmy Choos across the river.
