Guilty Goose:
Sure, the Hotel Chelsea gets all the attention in the neighborhood, what with its storied past and infamous guests, but one block over The Inn on 23rd is making a name for itself too. The buzz may be over the bed and breakfast’s new ground-floor brasserie rather than tales of unruly rock stars, but with nearly 40 mostly American craft beers ($5-$32), 70 international wines ($8-$14/glass, $27-$290/bottle) and four sakes ($27-$95), the widely varied crowd at Guilty Goose has opportunity enough to become uninhibited themselves. Due to New York law and Guilty Goose’s proximity to a church, the alcohol is limited to beer and wine, but your gin and tonic won’t be missed once you see how well that lager pairs with the Oyster Pan Roast ($11) and Seared Duck Breast ($24). All is enjoyed at the stone and glass bar up front or in the back dining room under copper light fixtures and photos of New York. They say what’s good for the goose is good for the gander, but what’s good for this stretch of West 23rd Street is the arrival of the Guilty Goose.
