GunBar: Tucked beneath Villa Pacri and La Gazzetta, the subterranean space formerly known as Tzigan has traded in gold for guns in its latest incarnation. But while the décor may be typical of a graffiti-covered Astor Place tattoo parlor (oh yeah, they have one of those on site), your typical LES (er, MPD) dive this is not—just take a look at the three bouncers, velvet rope and 15-minute line. Forget $5 shots and watery beers, here you’ll watch masterful mixologists juggle, twirl and even light aflame delectably executed cocktails ($15) from a menu that will change every week. Regardless of your poison, count on attention to detail like frosted metal glasses, Thai chili garnishes or homemade syrup with brown sugar, lime and mint. Or just kick back on a velvet couch and splurge on bottle service (Grey Goose, $300). Between the great people-watching, the killer DJ spinning a mix of techno, hip hop and rock, and the top-notch cocktails, you might just want to bite the bullet and check out GunBar before all its will-be regulars return from the Hamptons.
