Havana Central Times Square: Whenever you find yourself ducking tourist cameras in Times Square, odds are you long to be in a far-off place instead. Thanks to Havana Central, all it takes is a couple steps, and you’re practically in Cuba! Potted palm trees and a live band help create the island atmosphere, and although it’s not exactly quiet in here either (thanks to the lure of a 4-7pm happy hour), at least the staff is friendlier than the religious zealot yelling about Judgment Day outside. Whether sitting at the long bar, in the main dining room or up in the mezzanine, patrons will do well to order the “ultimate” mojito ($12.50/glass, $57/pitcher). The menu offers classics like paella ($14-$29) and mofongo ($14-$18), and the wise diner will save room for dessert—the tres leches cake definitely warrants a “Si, por favor!” You know, with options this good, New Yorkers may start going to Times Square on purpose. Maybe….
