Hiro Lounge / Ballroom:
Hiro can have some quiet nights, but when it’s on, it’s really on. This subterranean lounge under the Maritime Hotel is a rock star and supermodel favorite, though they tend to come out less often than when the place first opened in 2003. On Monday nights, a smart mix of rock and hip-hop is always a sure thing. The lounge itself boasts a clever Japanese design of low, arching ceilings and hanging lamps. Those looking to be a hero on the dance floor, might make their way over to the grandiose Hiro ballroom, where artists including Beck have performed on the low-slung stage. With a barrel-vaulted ceiling so high you won't believe it can exist in NY, more painted lanterns and a raised VIP section for A-Listers and those who want to pay like one, the ballroom is a prime destination for late night revelers, particularly those who enjoy dancing sans claustrophobia.
I had a great time when I was here. They had a performance that night, and it was hard to get seats unless you were willing to pay for bottle service. Me and my boyfriend got a nice deal, though, because we were allowed to buy a bottle of wine instead of the very expensive bottles. When the wine was gone, our waitress let us buy single drinks from her and keep the table. We danced all night, but had still the option to sit, it was a great time. I would go back!
