Horseshoe Bar:
Lost your faith in East Village bars? Then head for The Horseshoe where your prayers for the perfect communion with friends are answered by a booth or around a massive horseshoe-shaped bar (where even sinners are saved!). This 1937 vestige of what God intended for the East Village drinking scene boasts stained glass windows—a sign from heaven that you’re about to have a religious experience while enjoying their 31 draft beers ($4-$7) and an unholy array of top-shelf whiskeys and tequilas (starting at $7). If you’re really feeling like a high holy roller, grab a bottle of Cristal ($350) or, if your life of helping the less fortunate (a.k.a. your friends) has left your pockets bare, try the Korbel ½ bottle instead ($25). Deliver yourself from hunger by grabbing the bar’s stack of take-out menus (alas, there’s no kitchen). Turn the juke to Motorhead and pray that closing time never comes.
