Hot Bird:
Despite its name, the only hot birds to be found at this Clinton Hill bar are the chicks sweating it out on the patio. Named after a long-gone BBQ joint and housed in a former auto-body shop, Hot Bird has been recently reincarnated as a beer garden/cocktail lounge that plays off its predecessors’ numerous 30-foot tall advertisements. Hidden behind a wooden fence off industrial Atlantic Avenue, the space is a mish-mosh of styles that will appeal to many. The substantial patio is just a platter of ham-and-cheese sandwiches away from a high school graduation party—picnic tables, Granny’s garden chairs, and strings of colored lights jazz up the concrete dollar-store style. The wooden interior space is more refined with metal fixtures, a cast-iron sewing machine, warm lighting and an impressive bar. Authentic Georgia peach moonshine is the highlight of the mid-priced drink menu, which includes draft beers and classic cocktails. For now, Hot Bird’s fast-growing set of regulars—the monochromatic, skinny-jeans-in-the-heat wearing set that’s been inching its way down from Billyburg—must enjoy their drinks on empty stomachs. Fret not, a food truck promising standard American fare (and we hope the namesake chicken dish) will be arriving soon.
