Hudson Clearwater: Before you go to your new favorite restaurant, you’ll need to know how to get in. Though Hudson Clearwater’s address is 447 Hudson Street, its entrance is around the corner on Morton—and no, it’s not that first door; it’s the unmarked one sketching you out. Once through, traverse the courtyard and take the staircase leading upward, as the other is for the restaurant’s downstairs private dining room. When you’re finally seated at a table, the bar or the chef’s counter, toast to your journey’s end with a Hudson Mule (Bison Grass vodka, ginger beer, lime and candied ginger, $12) or a Revival (gin, Lillet, absinthe, orange liqueur, lemon and cherries, $12), and get ready for some seriously delicious upscale American food. All dishes are less than $20, so there’s room in the budget come dessert time for dark chocolate and cherry ganache even if there’s no room in your belly. Ultimately, we may all be sad once the secret is out on this West Village hideaway, but until then, the confused faces on the corner will continue to amuse.
