If Mom Only Knew:
Faux “dives” have replaced the old bodily-fluid-covered-floor dives of yore, and the mouthful If Mom Only Knew stands as a glowing example. With exposed brick, and spackled in ever-changing graffiti, your first sign that “iMok” isn’t a geniune dive is the stellar tipples available. We ain’t talking pitchers of swill and well booze, more like a revolving mixologist’s signature cocktails made with house-made purees, bitters and other mixers. These might include the vodka and pumpkin-pureed Pied Pumpkin or the gin-based Rosemary Bliss frothed with egg whites (all cocktails, $14). There’s no crap on tap either, with a rotating beer list ($6-7) as well as several respectable wine options ($8). The crowd and scene is decidedly neither faux dive nor dive-dive, with good-looking scenesters and party-banging DJ’ed music filling up this clandestine spot. Food doesn’t exist so any skinnies are forced to snack on...purees. Semantics aside, iMok is a place worth diving into.
