Il Tetto: Unofficial studies show that most acts of sexual indiscretion begin at a hotel bar. In an apparent attempt to appeal to this market, Brooklyn's Hotel Le Bleu tucks away its bar/lounge Il Tetto ten stories above the street, set back from the road on an industrial block of Gowanus. Despite first impressions, this ain’t the place for some low-class hook-up, oh no: this is where you go to have a ren-dez-view. The back roof patio and wall to wall windows give a glimpse of all five boroughs, lending a they-cant-see-us-but-we-can-see-them rush to the liaison. Most of the bar's patrons are from out of town, so you can sip a martini ($12-$15) and flit your eyes in anonymity. The lounge and adjacent restaurant are Italian themed, but while the decor is snazzy enough, there are no drafts and the wine list ($8-$13/glass) is disappointingly weak. Despite its off-the-beaten path location, this is still a hotel, so expect hotel prices for so-so offerings. But let's be honest, you didn't come here for the risotto now, did you? |
