Imperial No. Nine:
Steps away from the cheap dumpling shops surrounding Canal, Top Chef alum Sam Talbot’s elegant and sustainable seafood restaurant and bar is waiting to lure you in. Located inside the Mondrian hotel, the décor is strictly greenhouse-chic, featuring brick floors, a canopied glass ceiling and crystal chandeliers suspended over the bar display, which is dotted with potted plants and watering cans (lest you forget the restaurant’s green mantra). Nibble on sustainably-sourced bites like fried oysters with chow chow and crispy ham ($19) while sipping on numbered cocktails inspired by the neighboring Chinese restaurant menus. The No. 8 (whiskey, Drambuie, aperol, ginger syrup and muddled lemon grass, $14) provides a tart and cooling flavor with just a touch of heat. Sure, you won’t get the traditional steamed buns you were craving when you stepped off the subway, but let's face it—this is one battle that spicy pork just can't win.
