The large neon light outside Imperial Tavern reads “FUN” and acts like a beacon to all the drunken revelers looking for a party spot on the Lower East Side. But while they might be expecting Brother Jimmy’s-like madness, inside is a quaint bar and eatery with friendly barkeeps and music low enough to allow for audible conversation. One wall is lined with LP album art, while another boasts cartons of vinyl and some 8-tracks to be played whenever an iPod is not in use. When the kitchen is operating, the menu boasts a variety of “yummylicious” options like the Disco Burger (a cheeseburger sandwiched between a donut) formulated especially for anyone with the late night munchies. Come to think of it, the cheap beer ($3 on special, or $6-8 regularly), basement vibe and the mellow sounds of your parents’ youth all seem to be targeting anyone with the late night munchies....
