Indie Food and Wine: Jason Denton seems to have created another casual, yet sophisticated space, but this time he tackled the UWS at Lincoln Center. The Indie Food and Wine resto mingles amongst men in tuxedos and ladies in fancy dresses heading to their weekly routine of schmoozing at the ballet. Just like its namesake, the independent film, the venue promotes an artsy atmosphere with floor-to-ceiling windows in the front, horizontal wood paneling on the walls, and a full kitchen in the back where Shaunna Sargent churns out simplistic, fragrant meals. Give your taste buds something to dance about with fresh salads like the Escarole & Roasted Butternut Squash with toasted pistachios, sage and gorgonzola dressing ($12), or a simple portion of protein such as Duck Leg Confit Roasted or Milk-Braised Pork Belly ($13). Enjoy a post-nosh cappuccino ($3) or glass of wine ($7) off their awesome rolling drink cart as you check out the well-dressed crowd and decide where to waltz off to after your meal. Or if the communal tables are packed, which they probably will be, decide if you would be okay with grabbing your grub to go and creating an impromptu picnic on the steps of Lincoln Center. Brownie points if you're on a date for this cute move!
