indieScreen CineClub: An arthouse grows in Brooklyn with the debut of the CineClub bar and lounge, a recent addition to Williamsburg’s indieScreen cinema. Adding to the growing list of theater eateries, CineClub boasts a multicultural menu of tapas and tasty treats, like edamame hummus, ricotta meatballs and shiitake spring rolls (all $8). Movie-time munching is made easy with college-style fold-out desks attached to the theater’s stadium seats. The South Side spot also features a fully-stocked bar, serving up beer, wine and cocktails before and after film screenings (booze is only allowed in the theater on special occasions, like midnight screenings of A Clockwork Orange). The bar menu is also infused with international flavors, as with the “Caribbean Breeze” (Bacardi, coconut water, almond milk, Malibu and Blue curacao, $10) and the “Spice Me Up” (house-made jalapeno-infused vodka, pineapple juice and guava nectar,$10). Don’t let the “indie” name fool you, though—the film selections may cater to counterculture, but the décor is sleek and shiny, adorned with leather booths and flat screens (the only kitsch in sight is robot sculptures moonlighting as light fixtures). A bumpin’ bar it’s not (it clears out after the 9 pm screening), but with food, films and a full bar, indieScreen’s CineClub is a little cinema paradiso.
