Indochine:
Indochine is like a little black dress: it never goes out of style. Celebrating over 25 years on relatively obscure stretch of Lafayette opposite the Public Theater, the spot evokes a French-Vietnamese neocolonial chic and is always filled with a well-heeled crowd. After passing through a glowing red foyer, patrons are greeted by palm frond-festooned wallpaper shown up only by the potted real deals that shade the dining room and bar areas. Rattan and bamboo furniture decorate a cozy front lounge, where you can sip on a Black & Blue (Buffalo Trace Bourbon, crushed fresh blackberries, blueberry and lemon juice, dash of bitters—$12) while you spy on the celebrities who often frequent the place. Delicious and surprisingly affordable fusion fare awaits in the main dining room, where the accommodating staff ensures its guests will keep coming back for more.
